Why popping bubble wrap is such fun?

Today I received a parcel with bubble wrap and gave it to my daughter to play before discarding it.

She appreciated bursting the bubbles, as do children (including "children at heart") everywhere.

Is there a reason why this form of recreation is so widespread? Which psychological mechanisms are involved?Why popping bubble wrap is such fun?
I heard once that people bearing sexual problems love to burst bubble wrap.... however, i am not so sur that this is a good explanation, especially because, as you said, kids like it too.

I don't know what it is, but I absolutely LOVE popping bubble wrap! Maybe it's the tiny little bubbles, that you have to individually pop, or the bursting noises... maybe it's the thought that once it's been popped, it's gone forever! You only have once chance to enjoy your bubble wrap, so you have to appreciate the moment. Haha...

I don't know why people do that. but its just fun and I still seen to do that. Anyway I got a parcel this morning with some bubble wrap in it. Funny how I found this question.
The secret obsession with crushing the living life out of something, and hearing that "pop" knowing that you destroyed it forever. The real joy is doing the entire sheet, oh the power and sense of accomplishment in wiping out a entire population of airheads. At the same time knowing your not going to be punished for it.
I just like the sensation of those little bubbles bursting under my thumb.
