It drives me absolutely crazy and it seems that there is a gum chomper at every job I have ever worked. The new gum chomper in my office is the worst ever! Is this some kind of psychological disorder? How do they not know they are being rude? What is wrong with people who regularly chomp their gum and pop bubbles?
People who chew gum with their mouths open and crack and pop their gum are just plain inconsiderate imbeciles. Is it okay for people to eat with their mouths open? No! Is it okay for people to burp out loud? No! When people are working they should be considerate of other people and not make annoying noises. Gum cracking/popping is the most annoying habit I can think of. I would just go ahead and ask the person to please not chew gum with their mouth open.
Chewing gum is a really bad habit and is very unladylike. What is wrong with people who regularly chomp their gum and pop bubbles?
probably because they do not care these are the same people who eat with there mouth open im with you on this one it is very annoying like blackboards and chalk, may have your boss talk about this , no gum chewing at work, unless it could be done quietly, i have this quy at work who breathes so loudly, youd think he fell asleep, may be a problem but it drives me crazy, blow your nose or something
Haven't you ever heard of "bubble" gum? That's what it's for is to chew and blow bubbles. What is wrong with people who regularly chomp their gum and pop bubbles?
Gum-chomping is just a pet-peeve for you. There's nothing wrong with the people who do it, and personally I'm not bothered by people chomping gum. And since this gum habit doesn't bug everyone, it's not always perceived as being rude. Just ask them politely to stop or take up another habit. Like lolly-pop licking for example.
They just don't realize they are doing it or how annoying it is.
This was something my mom would freak out about. If we did pop a bubble, she'd pop us gently in the mouth. We learned very quickly how rude it was to chew gum in public.
Yeah its really annoying. Try giving him a candy or something maybe he will spit out his gum.
Gum chewing is ok, as long as the person's mouth is CLOSED! Popping bubbles is childish and unsanitary. What if a fly or other insect landed on the gum, or it popped on their hair or clothing? *shudder*
You won't be able to confront or shame the person into better manners, sorry. An adult's manners (both good and bad) come from within and from early childhood training.
What about a page from Emily Post's book of Manners about gum chomping/popping posted on the tackboard of the employee lunchroom?
You could also tell the story of a "friend" who was popping gum bubbles, had a spider land on it, and subsequently swallowed the insect alive. It's gross enough a tale to perhaps make that person think twice about popping gum bubbles (or look for spiders, anyway).
I think it's an attention-getting thing.
In an office setting (assuming it's a businesslike setting, not something *laid back*) it is very rude, and most offices have rules about it, just like in High School...which is ridiculous.... we are adults, we shouldn't need to be TOLD how to use proper workplace etiquette.
Outside the office though, Gum chewing is done for pleasure, and the bubble popping is just a habit, like tapping your fingernails or twirling your hair.
I agree about the rudeness when it's done at work, but if you start complaining about people doing it anywhere else then maybe you're just a bit snooty? lol.
i chew gum but i know poeple can get annoyed by it so i ussually just kinda suck on it to get the flavor and then when people aren't close to me i chew it but with my mouth closed cuz that seems to muffle the noise......i don't think it is a disorder if you find it unbearable ask them to stop.....allways use your words!
Some people are just rude by nature
